Many people who are homeless or vulnerably-housed experience the shame of moving through a world where they have become invisible, even misunderstood by many. They're so much more than 'homeless' to us. Our clients are people with hopes, and dreams, and talents, like everyone else. They matter.
At the heart of ArtSpeaks is our mission: at Shepherds of Good Hope, we are creating community for all through acceptance, compassion and care. As part of our innovative programs, our clients are provided with the opportunity for creative self-expression through art and music.
At ArtSpeaks, we’ll share artwork from our program participants interspersed with pieces curated from community artists. You’ll be able to appreciate the artwork for its merit and meaning. There are no artist bios. No photos. We hope to challenge the myths and misperceptions of what it means to be homeless or vulnerably-housed, and foster meaningful conversations about how we think about people that we see on the street. Perhaps most significant of all, is that ArtSpeak will also provide Shepherds of Good Hope clients with the opportunity to receive 90% of the funds raised by the sales of their artwork, with 10% retained to cover costs of materials.
